Wins for Palmer, Connor and Dunlop

There's no Manx Grand Prix action today (Tuesday), but there was plenty on Bank Holiday Monday.

Former British Champion and double TT winner Chris Palmer from Castletown won the Senior Classic Manx Grand Prix on Fred Walmsley’s 500cc Manx Norton.

He led from start-to-finish in a non-stop four-lap race to beat Steve Linsdell from Flitwick by 18.22 seconds after 150 miles flat-out racing on the Snaefell Mountain Course.

Third was Onchan newly-wed Derek Whalley (Aermacchi), about a further minute behind him.

John Goodall, Alan Brew and Ryan Farquhar completed the top six, with Hughes, Stacy Killworth, Tony Cawte and Steve Elliott completing the top 10.

Sweden's Mats Nilsson was hotly tipped to take the Newcomers 750cc class having topped the practice leader board. However, it wasn't to be as Shane Connor on his 750 Suzuki took the top podium position and the Swede had to settle for second.

Michael Weldon was third, Andy Cowin fourth and Wayne Kirwan fifth.

In the Newcomers C race for 125 and 400cc bikes the Dunlop name made it back onto the winners rostrum as Michael took the honours on his 125 Honda. Daniel Sayle was second also on a 125cc, and Ken Onus was third on his 400cc.

Alistair Hawarth and Jason Lamb made up to top five, also on 400's.
