Beatrix Potter to woo the Japanese?

by isleofman.com 29th August 2006
Its been claimed that the new Beatrix Potter film, starring Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger, could start a stampede of Japanese to the Lake District.

Miss Z and Mr Mc were on the Island this year for part of the filming of the story of the author of the characters Peter Rabbit and Jeremy Fisher.

Tom Wright, chief Executive of Visit Britain is planning a series of events in Japan to promote the film in a bid to reverse a fall in the numbers of Japanese visiting.
Japan has long had a love affair with the likes of Mrs Tiggywinkle. It's reported that ten years ago, they were turning up in their droves to look at Hill Top Farm where Potter penned many of her stories. But numbers have dropped off considerably. Its hoped the film could turn the tide.
