Ramsey marina plans

A Ramsey Commissioner has rubbished claims the town has stagnated as a result of missing out on a marina.

Revised plans for a scheme were dropped in 2001 after the town’s MHKs felt it would not be commercially viable.

Now five years on, politicians, commissioners and the town’s Chamber of Trade have all welcomed the news plans for a facility could be resurrected.

Wilf Young was part of the group opposing the initial plans and gained more than 2,000 signatures in a petition.

He believes the town’s MHKs withdrew their support for the scheme when the weight of feeling became known ahead of that year’s General Election.

Mr Young says now the matter is back up for discussion, it’s important small boat owners are involved in the consultation process and he believes there’s confusion over where the marina would be developed:
