Mobile phone companies in court

by isleofman.com 5th September 2006
Three Isle of Man companies affiliated to Russia’s largest mobile phone operator are at the centre of a court battle from rival Bitel.

The companies are being sued for thirteen million pounds over dividends received from Bitel at the start of last year.

Bitel is the operator of a mobile phone network in Kyrgyzstan, and MTS bought a controlling stake of Bitel through companies in the Island.

In December, the Kyrgyz Supreme Court seized Bitel and MTS says this latest legal action is a move designed to stop efforts to reclaim the company.
