Cavendish leads points competition in Tour of Britain

by isleofman.com 3rd September 2006
Manxman Mark Cavendish was runner-up for the second day in a row as Francesco Chicchi won a dramatic fifth stage of the Tour of Britain.

That moved Cavendish to 26th in the overall standings but more importantly he could be points champion after today’s final stage.

The 21 year old, in his debut for the T-Mobile team as a pro-rider, now heads the points competition.

The stage descended into farce at one point with riders staging a go-slow in protest at being kept waiting after being sent the wrong way in the neutral zone.
