Debt hangover from holidays

by isleofman.com 13th September 2006
As we recover from the rigours of our annual holidays, it seems that autumn is fast becoming a gloomy season in terms of debt.

The nation’s credit cards have taken a collective hammering this summer according to moneysupermarket.com.
"Despite recent terrorist scares and reports about the long-term damage to the environment caused by flying, it seems that the majority of us are continuing to make foreign breaks a priority spend. Thanks to the availability of cheap package deals and air travel and the wide range of destinations that are becoming more and more accessible, the average UK citizen has never been on so many holidays – according to The Times, each one of us took 1.6 holidays in the last 12 months.

Bev Budsworth of The Debt Advisor says that September is beginning to match January for the number of people who suffer debt related depression: “January is historically the worst month of the year for people becoming overwhelmed by debt. However, September is fast creeping up as people count the cost of expensive holidays and still have the expense of Christmas to contend with".

By the way just over 100 days to go to Christmas.
