Baxter's dramatic World Trials debut

by isleofman.com 26th September 2006
Trials rider Saskia Baxter had a dramatic debut at the Ladies Trials World round held in Belgium over the weekend.

Coming joint 20th on her 125 Beta in the first lap, she had a dramatic crash on the second section of the second lap.

Riding over rocks, she went slightly off line and was catapulted over the handlebars and thrown down the slope only stopping herself at the last second from falling down a 10 to15 foot drop onto the road below.

Saskia was seen by a medical team, but the plucky 16 year old from Onchan was determined to finish her debut round within time and took only 10 minutes out before continuing on her battered Beta. Both girl and machine, which suffered clutch damage and was leaking oil, did well to finish in time in last place.

Saskia, who can't recall the accident, was very grateful to the Italian Beta Racing Team who provided her with spare parts from Dabil's bike so she could continue to the Girls' Training Camp in France on Tuesday and Wednesday before competing in her second World Round near Renne, in France on Friday.

Saskia and her father, Ray, stayed in Belgium to watch the final of the men's Outdoor Championship, waving the flag for fellow Manx resident, Dougie Lampkin, before heading to France.
