Northern joy in Shimmin Wilson Shield

by isleofman.com 1st October 2006
Wins for Ramsey and Northern Spaniards saw the Northern outfits go first and second in the early stages of the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.

Ramsey beat holders Southern Nomads 20-7 at a windy Mooragh Park.

Darren Ideson put Ramsey in front with a trademark one yard flop over and Sean Wyllie’s penalty on the half hour mark gave them an 8-0 lead at the break.

Aneurin Pritchard crossed early in the second half to extend the lead before Lee Camilleri rounded off a fine debut with a well taken try to put the game beyond doubt.

Nomads fought back right to the end and were rewarded when “Big” Ste McHugh stretched over from close range at the end for a try converted by skipper Al Corrin.

At Poulsom Park, the Spaniards reversed a 15-7 half time deficit to beat hosts Castletown 26-15.

Hugo McKenzie, Mark Thomas, Justin Meechan and Chris Melvin all crossed for the visitors with Dave Edge adding three conversions.
