It was a golden day for the Isle of Man's Special Olympics Team at the European Youth Games in Rome on Wednesday.
In Athletics, there was a gold for Gareth Cowin in the Shot Putt with a distance of 7.32 metres . On the track, Katie Saunders got gold in the100m . . and the evening saw John Stevens take the Men's 100m honours by a distance of several metres.
The golden haul was completed with a surprise win in the Bocce competition (a cross between bowls and curling) for the doubles pair of Jason Fox and Oliver Riddle.
There was another Athletics medal - the 4x100m relay team of John Stevens, Katie Saunders, Gareth Cowin and David Dinham set a new Manx record of 62.45 seconds . . to come in silver medal position. In bowling, there was silver for Emily Davis and David Dinham plus a bronze Sean Roberts.
Gymnast Paul Clucas overcame an injured ankle to get silver in the vault.
In the pool, Katie Dalson got the bronze in the 50m freestyle, and in the 4x50m freestyle relay, the team also came in for bronze . .thanks to the efforts of Michelle Cameron, Lindsay Fox, Katie Dalson and David Hudson.
The Isle of Man has now won 6 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze which is a record haul for the Manx Special Olympics squad.
