by isleofman.com 6th October 2006
There have been two more medals for the Isle of Man's Special Olympics Team during the final day's competition in the European Youth Games.

In athletics Gareth Cowin got a silver medal in the 400 m walk, and in gymnastics, Rebecca Mallor got a silver in the vault in her first ever competition off-island.

Thursday evening saw the closing ceremony for the games take place . . . with an audience of several thousand . . .and the squad has now had time to relax and go sight seeing around Rome.

It's believed the Games have been the most successful ever in terms of medals gained by Manx athletes with a total of 7 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze medals.

The team flies home via London on Friday . . and should arrive at Ronaldsway Isle of Man Airport at around 8.40pm.
