Island crash out of football's Youth Cup

by isleofman.com 7th October 2006
There was disappointment for the Isle of Man County Youth Cup team today.

They took a first half lead in their preliminary round match against Staffordshire at the Bowl, but crashed out 2-1, following two second half strikes from their opponents.

A first half penalty, converted by St Mary's Jamie Skillen gave the Island cause for optimism at the break.

However, Staffordshire drew level with a 25 yard free kick, brilliantly struck into the top left corner by Tom Madden, and the same player was on hand to slot the ball home when Island keeper Max Thomas (St Mary's) failed to gather the ball.

The Island had a great chance to draw level before Madden got his second, when Laxey's Chris Brown found Connor Doyle (St George's) unmarked infront of goal with a great cross.

Doyle had a free header with the keeper rooted to the ground, but put the ball wide.
