Hardman "accidental death" verdict

by isleofman.com 11th October 2006
A verdict of accidental death has been recorded at an inquest for Kirk Michael sidecar passenger Colin Hardman.

He died from injuries sustained in a practice crash at the Cock o'the North Road Races at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough, in early July this year.

Hardman's racing highlight came in 1989 when he partnered Dave Molyneux to his first ever T.T. win.

Yesterday, at Pickering Magistrates' Court in North Yorkshire, Coroner Michael Oakley commented that "Motorcycle racing of any sort is a dangerous sport, and those who do it are fully aware of the dangers."

Hardman's fatal injuries resulted from colliding with a wooden fence. The Coroner suggested it was up to those who licensed the event at Scarborough to see if additional safety measures for the circuit were needed.
