Neteller issues US law statement

by isleofman.com 20th October 2006
The Isle of Man based company which all but rules the payments market for online poker players has issued a statement over new American laws which could threaten its future.

Neteller plc, an "e-wallet" company, says it will abide by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 passed earlier this month.

The new legislation looked set to outlaw online gambling by banning payment systems from being involved in the industry.

The company says it will comply with the act and regulations as if it were based in the US.

But as these regulations have not been passed by the Secretary of the Treasury and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System yet, it’s not clear what the ramifications are for the company.

In the meantime Neteller says its US-resident customers can use the service as normal, but also adds it’s looking to launch localised services in three more countries this year.
