Title race looks set to be a thriller

by isleofman.com 21st October 2006
It may still be October but the OSA Division One title race is threatening to be one of the most exciting in recent years.

Just two points separate the big four who all won on Saturday.

St Mary’s were 4-0 winners at newly promoted Union Mills to stay a point clear at the summit, courtesy of goals from Liam Cowin, Tom Weir, Jamie Skillen and Ryan Powesland.

Reigning champions Laxey and St George’s are just a point off the pace, Laxey securing the result of the day in the top flight with a 4-0 win at Ayre – John Callow (two), Neil Brogan and Chris Brown on target for the Miners.

The Geordies repeated that feat – winning 4-0 at Tromode against Gymns with goals from Andy Bass, James McStay, Michael McHale and Chris Bass junior – while Peel are in fourth, just a further point behind.

They thrashed bottom club Marown 6-0 at Douglas Road, thanks to goals from Neil Birchenough (two), Chris Cain (two), Juan Killip and Steve Corkill.

A late winner from Steve Cleator secured Ramsey three important points at newly promoted Braddan as the northerners moved themselves four points clear of their opponents, who remain in the relegation zone.

Struggling St John's and Douglas Royal shared the spoils at Mullen-e-Cloie.

Wes Kitching opened the scoring for the home side in the first half but Jamie Carr equalised for Royal after the break.
