Star names confirmed for Revolution cycling meeting

by isleofman.com 6th November 2006
Manx riders Peter Kennaugh and Jonny Bellis face some of the biggest names in pro road racing at the next round of Revolution at the Manchester Velodrome on November the 18th.

Italian cycling star and double Giro d'Italia winner Gilberto Simoni joins a list including Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish's T-Mobile team mate Roger Hammond.

Many of the British Olympic Podium squad are training in Australia and will miss the meeting.

The Manchester cycling track, which has served many of the Island's top riders so well, is to be resurfaced seven years ahead of schedule.

British Cycling's Great Britain Team requires the new track to be laid as soon as possible so training programmes for the Beijing Olympics in 2008 are not disrupted.

Sport England has awarded Manchester City Council ?270k of National Lottery funding towards the cost of the new track and there's additional support from Manchester City Council and British Cycling.
