Weekend sporting action

by isleofman.com 3rd November 2006
The headline game in this weekend's football fixtures features OSA Division One leaders, St George's, taking on last year's Grand Slam winners, Laxey.

St George's underlined their capabilities last Saturday, beating Peel 3-0 at Glencrutchery Road thanks to a hat-trick from summer signing Martin Torr.

However, Laxey also beat Peel in their last fixture and like St George's, will be at near enough full strength.

Peel need a result at Ramsey, Union Mills travel to Gymns and Rushen host Braddan.

Hockey focuses on the Heritage Homes Cup and Tuftex Trophy this weekend.

Saracens A will be looking to turn around their poor league form as they face an inconsistent Phoenix A side. Ravens have a tough draw against club colleagues Ramsey A, who should be too strong for them, Falcons should be confident of progressing to the next round against Harlequins A and Valkyrs A should prove too strong for Bacchas C.

Trophy holders Rookies begin their defence against fourth division Vandals.

There's no action in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield this weekend, but both Vagabonds and Douglas are in action in the Euromanx South Lancashire/Cheshire Divisions. Vagabonds host struggling Aspull hoping home advantage will win the day, and Douglas face a tough afternoon at Mossley Hill.
