A local firm says a new method they have developed will save on the enormous amounts of paper used when retrieving documents from archives.
G4S say they have taken the decision to run the Scan-On-Demand service on the Isle of Man first, before rolling the solution into other jurisdictions.
They say that research proves that many businesses face expensive problems with vast quantities of paper documents that are built up over time. Even those that are working electronically invariably have a significant volume of old paper documents which impose security and storage problems.
These old documents are too important to throw away but represent a real business cost and a very significant Disaster Recovery risk.
A large number of companies now scan their old documents to allow electronic access. But such large scale back-scanning is inherently expensive and prone to very significant problems.
Over the last twelve months G4S and Intelligence Limited, its Isle of Man research partner, have been working to develop a service which offers its customers a radically different approach.
The Scan-On-Demand service, now launched by G4S on the Isle of Man, allows customers to request electronic access to paper documents held in archive. When a document is requested, rather than the physical document being retrieved and delivered by van, the documents are scanned and made available via a secure website.
Stuart McCudden, Managing Director of G4S Isle of Man says " paper is inefficient, can be easily lost and represents a serious Disaster Recovery issue”.
Increasingly customers are looking to work electronically. The solution we have launched now allows our customers to store paper documents with us and request electronic copies when required.”
