There were mixed fortunes for the Manx sides in the EuroManx leagues on Saturday.
Vagas started slowly at Burnage and were 27-5 down at half time with only a Rob Martin try to show for their efforts.
With the journey to Stockport finally behind them, they came good in the second half but not quite good enough.
A try from Kevin Birchall and a conversion from Johnny Beckley gave them a sniff but the 27 points shipped in the first half proved to me too much of a millstone and they finally went down 27-12.
Douglas, in contrast, also started slowly but they managed to claw the game back and ran out 16-10 winners over Newton le Willows.
Newton took an early lead and turned around 7-3 in front with Douglas’ only reply being a Dave Wood penalty.
Andy Henning-Fisk’s try hauled Douglas back into the match and the win was sealed with two Dave Wood penalties.
