Dramatic Day in Division One

by isleofman.com 18th November 2006
There were big results at both ends of the table in OSA Division One on Saturday.

A Peter Langridge penalty sealed a fine 2-1 win for St Mary's at Rushen.

The Saints came from behind to move into second place in the table but were pushed all the way by battling Rushen, who were up against it after the early dismissal of goalkeeper Aron Storrie.

Steven Priestnal cancelled out Mark Barron’s opener before Langridge struck the winner.

Elsewhere, Gymns pulled off one of the shocks of the season with a superb 2-1 win at Peel.

An 89th minute header from Kieran Iveagh stunned the westerners and inflicted a massive dent in their title hopes.

Daniel Lace had earlier equalised Ciaran McNulty’s seventh minute opener for the visitors but they weren’t to be denied.

It was also an excellent day for rock bottom Marown as they secured their first win since the opening day with a potentially crucial 2-0 win at fellow strugglers Braddan.

A goal in each half from Mark Dunn and Paul Bratty moved the Crosby side to within two points of their opponents, who remain in the relegation zone.

Reigning champions Laxey secured a much-needed win, 5-1 at home to another side fighting relegation, Union Mills.

John Callow (two), Carl Barks, Gary Williams and Daniel Kewley were the Miners’ marksmen with David Thomenny scoring the Mills’ consolation from the penalty spot.
