Late goal sinks Marown

by isleofman.com 26th November 2006
St John’s inflicted a potentially fatal blow to Marown’s relegation bid with a 3-2 victory at Crosby on Saturday.

An 88th minute goal winner from Wes Kitching moved St John’s further away from the drop zone and heaped more misery on their rock bottom opponents.

Marown, who defeated Braddan seven days earlier, took the lead through Kevin Pulman and, after St John’s overturned the deficit to lead at half-time through Jack Walton and Liam Harrison, Paul Bratty equalised for the home side.

But Kitching had the final word as St John’s secured maximum points.

Meanwhile, St George’s moved five points clear at the summit after a 5-0 home success against the other side in the bottom two, Braddan, courtesy of goals from Chris Bass junior (two), Martin Torr (two) and Johnny Myers.

Reigning champions Laxey gained revenge for an early season defeat at Douglas Royal by thrashing them 7-2 at Glen Road.

The Miners were held at 2-2 at half-time after Jamie Carr gave Royal a fourth minute lead and Aaron Quinn equalised after Laxey had gone 2-1 in front.

But Manx football’s dominant force proved exactly that in the second period with four-goal John Callow the star of the show and further goals from Ross Williamson and Lee Cowley, plus an own goal.

Rushen saw off battling Union Mills 4-2 at Croit Lowey with doubles from the influential Paul Jones and Andrew Moody sealing the points.

The strike partnership of Steve Quine and David Thomenny were on target for the Millers.
