Valkyrs A and Bacchas in thriller

by isleofman.com 2nd December 2006
The dominant forces in Manx hockey produced a thrilling 4-4 draw on Saturday.

Newly crowned champions Valkyrs A and the side they’ve disposed of as top dogs in Mixed Division One, Bacchas A, shared eight goals.

And it was a match to remember with Karl Moore and Gareth Craig firing Bacchas into an early 2-0 lead before Gareth Morris and Andrea Kneen responded quickly to haul Valkyrs level.

The topsy-turvy nature of the game continued with Bacchas regaining the lead through Moore before Chris Thomas equalised just before half-time.

Jamie Cox struck to put Bacchas in front yet again after the re-start before Gerry Quinn showed Valkyrs’ endurance with another leveller in the closing stages.

Elsewhere, the impressive Ramsey thrashed Falcons 6-2, courtesy of goals from Ali Breen (two), Andy Burrows, James Atchison, Ollie Webster and Dan Stevenson.

Ken Carney and Simon Harding found the net for Falcons.

And there was a big win for Bacchas B, 5-1 against Phoenix A, thanks to goals from Steve Chappell (two), Anne Harrison, Glen Bloxham-Mundy and Jamie Brown.

Dave Millwood netted the Phoenix consolation.
