Ramsey Youth Centre belied their league position by pushing Corinthians all the way in the GH Corlett Woods Cup preliminary round on Saturday.
The Whites eventually triumphed 5-4 at Noble’s Park but had to battle hard before securing a place in the last eight.
Youth Centre produced an excellent first half performance to lead 4-2 at the break, courtesy of goals from Ron Murphy, Steve Oates, Matthew Boyd and Michael Kneale.
However, Corinthians produced an equally superb comeback to avoid a shock, thanks to a Jamie Stoy hat-trick and Nigel Moody brace.
Michael defeated Colby 5-2 in the tie of the round.
Michael Shimmin, Paul Corlett, Jamie Moffatt (two) and Chris Hancock ensured the home side’s progress, while talented youngster Josh Kelly grabbed a goal in each half for Colby.
The match between the two most improved sides in Division Two saw Onchan edge out Malew.
A Mark Walmsley double secured a 2-1 victory with Darryl Yardley on target for Malew – all the goals coming in the first half.
Foxdale edged a five goal encounter by seeing off Douglas and District 3-2 at Biilly Goat Park – the veteran Martin Costain the home side’s hero with a hat-trick.
Second half goals from Martin Priestnal and Mark Waring gave Ronaldsway victory in the airport battle as the Rockets overturned a half-time deficit to win 2-1 at Jurby, for whom regular marksmen Phil Corkill scored.
The most exciting tie of the day was at Groves Road where Police saw off neighbours Pulrose 3-2 after extra-time.
The sides had shared four goals in normal time before the Police emerged victorious.
Chris Coxon (two) and Steve Gardner were the goal heroes for the home side, with the prolific Dave Skillen and Jay Wood finding the net for Pulrose.
