Valkyrs A defeat rivals; Harding fires Falcons to final

by isleofman.com 9th December 2006
Newly crowned champions Valkyrs A’s bid to complete a league and cup double gathered significant momentum on Saturday.

They defeated rivals Bacchas A 4-2 in the Heritage Homes Cup quarter-final to set up a semi-final showdown with Phoenix A on Sunday.

Goals from Chris Thomas, Greg Miller, Gareth Morris and Julian Colley sealed Valkyrs’ first win over Bacchas this season.

The westerners were dominant – 4-0 up at one stage – before regular marksman Andy Bridson and Sharon Pope ensured a closer scoreline.

The winners of the Valkyrs A-Phoenix A semi-final will meet Falcons in the final after Simon Harding inspired them to a superb second half comeback to defeat Bacchas B 3-2 in the first semi-final.

Sheena Mackay and Glen Bloxham-Munday had fired Bacchas into a 2-0 half-time lead but a second half hat-trick from the excellent Harding clinched a final place for a delighted Falcons.

Holders Ramsey Rookies will meet Valkyrs D in the Tuftext Trophy final after two close semi-finals on Saturday.

In a repeat of last year’s final, Rookies and Southerners shared four goals before the northerners won 3-1 on flicks.

Keith Corkill and Ewan Heap were on target for Rookies with Matt Collister and Joe Stockman the Southerners’ scorers.

Meanwhile, Valkyrs D booked their place after an excellent recovery.

They trailed Cushags 2-0 at half-time after goals from Sam Quinn and Jamie Stewart, but a double from Graham Shimmin (two) and Johnny Quinn clinched a memorable win for Valkyrs.
