Relegation battle hots up

by isleofman.com 9th December 2006
Marown and Braddan’s bid to beat the drop received mixed fortunes on Saturday.

Rock bottom Marown sealed an impressive 5-2 win at Douglas Royal, while the other side in the relegation zone, Braddan, gained a welcome point by holding Rushen to a 3-3 draw.

However, they still remain adrift at the foot of the table after the side directly above them, Union Mills, ran out 4-1 winners over Gymns.

Ramsey are now one place above the drop zone as a result of Millers’ victory, which was secured by goals from Steve Quine (two), Sam Cain and Martin Gildea.

Nevertheless, Marown increased their survival prospects with an excellent first half-performance at Douglas Royal.

They were 3-0 up at half-time and went onto win with goals from Mark Dunn (two), Kevin Pulman, Andy Quayle and Paul Bratty.

Regular scorers, Johnny Baker and Aaron Quinn, pulled two back for Royal after the interval.

Marown are now level on points with Braddan, who showed battling qualities of their own to overturn a half-time deficit against Rushen.

Lee Ramsden, James Ramsey and Adam Hawkes were the Braddan scorers, with PJ Martin (two) and Steve Riding finding the net for Rushen, who led 3-2 at the break.
