Lloyds plays Santa to needy at Christmas

by isleofman.com 11th December 2006
Lloyds TSB staff have raised over thirteen thousand pounds, by donating ?1 per week to dress down on the last Friday of every month.
The cash is going to local charities, with 38 benefiting so far.

Each department within the Peveril Buildings offices chose three charities, which are rotated each month. A committee of staff received the monthly contributions and considered requests from staff embarking on sponsorship events along with donation requests from the public. December has been chosen to support the Salvation Army and Douglas Coal Fund to provide extra support to families and the elderly at Christmas time.

The committee also invited representatives from all of the chosen charities to join them for a celebratory buffet lunch.

Gill Corkill, who co-ordinates corporate hospitality and sponsorship for Lloyds TSB Offshore Limited, said, ‘Some of the charities have benefited from the Lloyds TSB Foundation ‘matched giving scheme’. The foundation receives 1% of the Bank’s profits and is one of the UK's largest grant-making trusts.
The Foundation’s mission is to support and work in partnership with charitable organisations helping those who are disadvantaged play a fuller role in the community’. Gill added, ‘I should like to encourage local charities to apply to the foundation whether their project is large or small.’
