Passengers urged to rebel against security charge

by isleofman.com 27th December 2006
A major airline, at Liverpool John Lennon Airport is telling passengers
"Say No to the ?2 security charge” that is due to be enforced from New Years day. That would effect Manx passengers arriving on Merseyside.

On 13th December, Liverpool John Lennon Airport announced it would force passengers to pay a ?2 fee to pass through Underground-style ticket barriers before entering Security. It blamed “heightened security costs” and said the new regime would start on 1st January 2007.

If it does come in, then EasyJet is strongly urging its passengers to rebel and Say No. It says fares already include security charges so why should passengers have to pay twice?.

Easyjet says it has a long-term contract with Liverpool Airport which explicitly includes all security services provided to easyJet customers. "As such easyJet already pays for security services on behalf of its passengers and having taken legal advice we are demanding that the Airport sticks to its contract with easyJet by imposing no further charges on passengers".
