by isleofman.com 30th December 2006
St George’s ended 2006 as favourites to capture a third Division One title in four years.

In a football programme decimated by the weather, the Geordies won 2-0 at Ramsey on Saturday to move eight points clear at the top, courtesy of a goal in each half from Callum Morrissey and Chris Bass junior.

Rushen ran riot against Douglas Royal at Noble’s Park to stay fifth.

Two goals apiece from Neil Curphey, Steve Riding and Aaron Hawley, plus an own goal, sealed a 7-2 success.

Chris Anderson scored both goals for Royal.

In CFS Division Two, the top two were emphatic winners.

Leaders Old Boys were 6-1 home victors over Malew, thanks to goals from Sean Gavin, Callum Stewart, Patrick Manning, Darren Hudgeon, Lee Ford and Brian Gartland.

Second placed Corinthians demolished bottom club Jurby 13-0, led by five goal Steven Glover.

Strike partner Nigel Moody grabbed a hat-trick.

Another regular marksman, Jamie Stoy, netted a brace, while Paul Healey, Phil Hughes and Chris Cannell were also on the scoresheet.

Castletown ended 2006 on a bright note to move up to seventh with a 4-0 home triumph over Douglas and District.

The prolific Greg Hoskisson led the way with a double and there was a goal apiece from John Howarth and Ashley Sanbsury.
