Dougie Lampkin suffered bad luck at the weekend as he failed secure a top three position in an indoor trial at Sheffield Arena.
The event, which is no longer part of the 2007 World Indoor Championship, attracted some of the planet's best riders; World Indoor and Outdoor Champion Adam Raga, Albert Cabestany, last year's winner Tony Bou, James Dabill, Takahisa Fujinami and Lampkin.
Lampkin started off well, buoyed by home support, and ended the first lap in the lead.
All riders cleaned the first section on lap two with the exception of Takahisa Fujinami. On section two Adam Raga put in the best performance getting through with just one dab and two time penalties. Lampkin rode the section clean almost until the end, but unfortunately he picked up his first five of the night on the final obstacle.
Everyone got through sections three, four and five reasonably unscathed, but section six was where it all started to go wrong for Lampkin. He failed to make the second step and gained a five, where Raga lost just a single dab, which put the Spaniard tied in the lead with countryman Bou.
Section seven and the first man through was Dabill who wowed onlookers with his skill. Raga, Cabestany and Lampkin dropped five, which put Bou back into the lead.
Going into the final section, Lampkin was in third place and had to complete his dual-lane races to get on the podium. However, a foot peg broke during his race with team-mate Fujinami. He crashed out and picked up five points, allowing Fujinami to take third spot.
