Liverpool prepares for security charge

by isleofman.com 3rd January 2007
The good news for air travellers from the Island to Merseyside is that the new two pound security charge is not yet operating.

On the other hand, the turnstiles are now in place and with negotiations going on, those turnstiles are likely to start clicking quite soon. The Airport says it needs the cash to pay for added security. They are looking to cover about five million pounds.

Peel Holding, who own the airport and who are owned in turn by Malew resident John Whittaker, say they have lost 15 million pounds to date on operations there and have invested 80 million pounds in total.

Robin Tudor, who is General Manager Corporate and Community Affairs at John Lennon admits the airlines, with Easyjet to the fore, are angry, saying they have already included security charges in their tickets and asking why should they pay twice?:
