Ramsey remain unbeaten in Shield

by isleofman.com 6th January 2007
The points went north in the top of the table clash in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield with league leaders Ramsey running out 17-0 winners against reigning champions Southern Nomads at King Williams College.

In an extremely tight game, Ramsey took the lead with a Shaun Wyllie penalty.

Just before half time, Aneurin Pritchard intercepted and ran 70 metres to score under Nomads posts and, when Shaun Wyllie added the conversion, the half time score was 10-0 to the visitors.

Nomads fought back strongly in the second half but were unable to get off the mark and, 10 minutes before the end, Danny Turner sealed the win with a try which was again converted by Wyllie.

At Glencrutchery Road, Vagabonds moved into second place with a 29-7 win over Douglas B.

David Quayle, Jordan Luyt, Danny Williams, Christo Roelofse and Ewald Killian all crossed for Vagas with Douglas’ consolation score coming from Keith Alexander.

In the final game of the afternoon, Castletown beat Northern Spaniards 34-28 at Mooragh Park.

Ross Stevens and Dan O’Connor both picked up a brace for Town with Dave Crowe and Matty Ashcroft also crossing.

Dan O’Connor also kicked two conversions for Town, who have now won their last two matches.

For the Spaniards, Lee Camilleri scored two with tries also coming from Tom Davies and Davy Oldfield.

Pete Walkom converted all four Spaniard’s tries.
