Champions launch title defences in style

by isleofman.com 6th January 2007
Reigning champions Valkyrs A launched their men’s Division One hockey defence in style on Saturday with a 7-1 romp against newly promoted Vikings B.

The champions showed their form from the outset, led by two goal Gerry Quinn.

Greg Miller, Gareth Morris, John Norrington, Vic Fearnes and Julian Colley were the other scorers with Phil Quayle grabbing the Vikings’ consolation.

Elsewhere, a fine hat-trick from Karl Moore helped arch rivals Bacchas A hit Castletown A for eight without reply.

Richard Le Page (two), Jamie Cox, Gareth Craig and Andy Bridson notched the others.

Unfortunately, the match was abandoned with seven minutes remaining due to an injury sustained to the Town keeper.

Both clubs wish him well.

Ramsey A won a seven goal thriller to edge out Bacchas B 4-3 in the most exciting game of the day.

James Atchison (two), Andy Burrows and Dan Stevenson were the Ramsey scorers with Steve Chappell, Tom Wilson and Danny Shuttleworth finding the net for Bacchas.

Paul Kelly and Andy Horbury fired Vikings A to a 2-1 win over Valkyrs B, for whom Ian Wrigley was the scorer, in the other Division One match.

Four goal Donna Harrison led reigning champions Bacchas A to an emphatic victory as they began their title defence in Wallbrook Trustees women’s Division One.

The prolific goal-getter was joined on the scoresheet by Cat Griffiths (two) and Sharon Pope in a 7-2 win over Phoenix A.
