Shimmin shines for Douglas

by isleofman.com 27th January 2007
In the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield, Ramsey moved closer to the title when Western Vikings conceded the fixture between the two.

The Northerners now need just four points from their last three games to be uncatchable.

In the only match of the day, Douglas B met Northern Spaniards and scrum half Ady Shimmin was in fine form, picking up two tries in a 31-5 win.

John Ledwidge opened the scoring as Douglas dominated the first half.

Christian Brew added a second before Shimmin and Seb Jeanneau both added tries to put their side 24-0 in front at half time.

The second half saw the Spaniards begin to get back into the game but any hopes they had were quickly killed off as Shimmin notched his second.

When Neil Cartwright converted the game was as good as over at 31-0.

To their credit, the Spaniards fought right to the end and finally Jimmy Cubbon forced his way home from close range for a late but well deserved consolation.
