Claire Christian, MLC, ( pictured left) is to take on responsibility for the influential Planning & Building Control Directorate inside the Department of the Environment.
It includes any functions exercised by the Department in relation to development control; building control; mapping; registered buildings; and conservation areas.
Dudley Butt, MLC,( pictured right) has been handed responsibility for the Waste Operations Management Unit by Minister John Shimmin.
That includes functions requiring to be exercised by the Department in relation to the planning, operation and after-care of landfill sites; waste minimisation, recovery, re-use and recycling initiatives; and the review and operation of waste materials subsidy schemes.
At the same time Mr Shimmin ( pictured centre) pays tribute to the experience and continuity afforded by Mrs Christian and Mr Butt in helping him come to grips with his expansive new portfolio.
New MHK Juan Watterson, MHK, is now responsible for the Estates & Housing Directorate, which includes housing allocations and repairs, architectural services, Government properties and land bank portfolio and, in particular, its functions under the House Improvement and Energy Conservation Scheme 2005 and the House Purchase Assistance Scheme 2004.
The Minister says he will keep the responsibility for the Environment, Safety & Health Directorate, which includes food protection, housing standards, environmental protection and health and safety; and the Corporate Services Directorate which is responsible, amongst other things, for local government, financial management and legislation and policy. The Minister also has responsibility for the Government Analyst’s Laboratory.
