Ramsey on verge of championship

by isleofman.com 3rd February 2007
Ramsey are just one victory away from clinching the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield championship after they thrashed the lowly Northern Spaniards 65-5 on Saturday.

A hat-trick of tries each from Dan Turner and Tynan Pritchard, plus five conversions from Shaun Wylie, were instrumental in the rout, while Ben Quayle, Darren Ideson, Matthew Livesey and Aneurin Pritchard also chipped in with a try apiece.

Hugo MacKneale scored the consolation try for the home side.

Reigning champions Southern Nomads had an impressive 22-13 victory at Douglas B – Wig Bregazzi (two), Ben Campbell and Rob Keelan their try scorers.

Arguably, the result of the day saw Castletown thrash Western Vikings 31-0, led by a hat-trick of tires from Matt Ashcroft, and other tries from Lee McGuire and Dan O’Connor.

It was Town’s first home win of the season.

Vagabonds went down to a 12-29 defeat at home to Sale in EuroManx South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.
