Pulrose and Old Boys were the teams of the day as they sent Division One sides crashing out of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Second Division Pulrose – last year’s finalists - defeated high-flying Douglas Royal in a penalty shoot-out after an exciting 3-3 draw.
And Division Two leaders humbled top flight St John’s on their own patch with a comprehensive 3-0 success after extra-time.
At Groves Road, the prolific Dave Skillen (two) and Jay Wood were on target for Pulrose.
The match was tied at 2-2 after normal time, 3-3 after extra-time and the home side triumphed 3-0 on spot-kicks.
And there was success for Old Boys too.
They held St John’s to a goalless draw over 90 minutes and then ran riot in extra-time – Gary Quirk, Steven Clarke and Craig Stewart the scorers to shock the home side.
One of the teams of the preliminary round, Malew, produced another impressive display against Division One opponents – narrowly defeated 1-0 at Railway Cup winners Peel with a first half Nigel Shimmin goal all that separated the sides.
The other heroes of the prelim round, Colby, were thrashed at home.
Missing many of their players who earned victory against Rushen in the previous round, they were beaten 6-0 by Corinthians – Nigel Moody (two), Jamie Stoy (two, one pen), Blane Slatery and John Coppell the scorers.
There was a thriller at the Bowl as St Mary’s were given a real scare before defeating brave Michael 5-4.
The Division Two side actually led 2-0 at one stage thanks to goals from Michael Shimmin and Paul Corlett.
But the Saints’ hit back through a quickly taken Peter Langridge free-kick to reduce the arrears before the break.
St Mary’s showed their quality immediately after the interval – scoring three times in six minutes!
Just two minutes after the interval Steve Priestnal levelled before Martin Reilly fired the home side in front for the first time and then extended their lead to 4-2.
Michael would not be deterred and pulled one back through Kieran Quinn before Michael Perks amazingly hauled the visitors level at 4-4!
However, the returning Paul Wright scored a late, late winner for his second goal in as many games.
It was a similar story at Crosby where Douglas and District excelled themselves against top flight opponents – narrowly going down 3-2 at Marown.
Laurence Looney and Peter Kirkham kept D&D in touch with a goal in each half but Marown came out winners through Kevin Pulman, an own goal and Ricky Lovett.
Division One leaders St George’s were given a battle but their quality shone through with a 4-0 win at Castletown – courtesy of goals from Stuart Bell Scott (two), Callum Morrissey and Andy Bass, while reigning champions Laxey were also given a test but the scoreline was equally comfortable at home to Ramsey Youth Centre.
The Miners’ marksmen were Nigel Beattie (two), Rob Sorby and Ross Williamson.
Braddan’s tenure in OSA Division One is virtually over after a 3-1 defeat at Gymns - Ciaran McNulty, David Rees and Roger Davies the home side’s scorers - while the side promoted with them, Union Mills, all but sealed their survival with a 4-2 home win over Ayre United.
Steven Halsall, Chris Kelly, Sam, Cain and David Thomenny found the net for the Merry Millers.
