Champions show class

by isleofman.com 10th February 2007
Reigning champions Laxey and Peel showed on Saturday that, however faint their title hopes, they won’t give up on Manx football’s top prize.

Laxey thrashed Rushen 4-0 on their own turf, Ross Williamson, Nigel Beattie, Rob Sorby and Chris Brown the scorers as the Miners showed their quality at Croit Lowey.

Meanwhile, Peel saw off Ramsey 3-0 at Douglas Road – Tony Duggan, Kevin Megson (penalty) and Rob Cottier finding the net for the westerners.

In CFS Division Two, league leaders Old Boys overturned a half-time deficit to overcome Castletown.

Town, whose scorers were John Howarth and Alex Cawley, led 1-0 at the break.

But Old Boys emerged 4-2 winners, courtesy of Sean Gavin (two), Gary Quirk and Darren Hudgeon.

Michael maintained their promotion hopes with a 5-1 success at Douglas and District.

Richard Crowe, Jamie Moffatt, Paul Corlett, Michael Shimmin and Thomas Corlett’s first goal for the club secured the westerners’ victory.

Nigel Paul notched the D&D consolation.

First half goals from John Halsall and Dave Skillen settled the meeting between the in-form sides, Pulrose and Onchan, in Pulrose’s favour, while a hat-trick from veteran Steve Gardner and an own goal sealed the Police a 4-1 home win over bottom club Jurby, whose consolation was scored by Dave Lawson.
