Fifteen in a row for Douglas – Vagabonds whipped at Wirral

by isleofman.com 5th March 2007
There were starkly contrasting fortunes for the two Manx sides involved in the UK National Leagues on Saturday.

Douglas continued their march to the top of EuroManx South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three with a 37-12 home win over Ellesmere Port, while Vagabonds were slammed 55-0 away on the Wirral in EuroManx South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

Andy Jones sent Douglas on their way with an early try and a Lee Illott penalty, plus a Dave Wood try, gave the Manx side a 13-12 lead at half time on a very boggy Port-e-Chee pitch.

Douglas cut loose a little in the second half.

Prop Ben Dutnall bagged two tries and there were also touchdowns from Trevor Christian and Ted Games, plus two conversions from Illott.

Vagabonds travelled to their fixture against third placed Wirral missing seven first choice players and they added to their woes with injuries to Leigh Kennaugh and Andre Pretorius.

The only real positive to come from the trip is they know they can do much better!
