Saints and Peel secure semi-final spots

by isleofman.com 5th March 2007
St Mary’s and Peel both progressed to the Cu Plas FA Cup semi-finals with ease on Saturday.

The Saints demolished Division Two Corinthians 7-0 at the Bowl, a scoreline Peel repeated at western rivals Marown in the two quarter-finals to survive the weather.

Two goals each from Paul Wright, Peter Langridge and Steven Priestnal, along with a Jamie Skillen goal, booked the Saints’ place in the semi-finals where they’ll meet the winners of the Laxey/St George’s quarter-final.

Meanwhile at Crosby, a Kevin Megson hat-trick (two from the penalty spot) helped Peel defeat lowly Marown.

Nick Hurt (two), Neil Birchenough and Juan Killip were the other goal-getters.
Peel will visit the winners of the Old Boys/Pulrose tie in the other semi-final.

In Division One, Douglas Royal produced an excellent fightback to draw 3-3 at Ayre United.

The home side led 2-0 at half-time and found the net through Johnny Cowley, Niall Cummins and Paul Kennish.

However, Royal earned a point through Craig Taylor (two) and John Baker.

There was another six-goal thriller at Mullen-e-Cloie as St John’s and Gymns shared the points – Liam Harrison (two) and Sean Rooney the home marksmen.

Michael United moved up to second place in CFS Division Two after a 3-0 home win over Ramsey Youth Centre – Michael Perks, Paul Corlett and Kieran Quinn the scorers.

Colby won an exciting southern derby at battling Ronaldsway.

Talented teenager Josh Kelly was the hero with four goals – Oliver Swales (two) and Josh’s father, veteran Basil Kelly, grabbed the other goals in a 7-4 win.

Regular marksmen Mark Wolfenden (two), Paul Skelly and Dwayne Dawson found the net for the Rockets.

Onchan continued their fine season with a 3-1 win against Foxdale - John Cooper, Dean Gough and Mark Walmsley the home side’s scorers - while the Police’s return to form continued as they overcame much improved Malew 3-2 at Groves Road - Josh Gardner (two) and Peter Dixon on target for the Police.
