Jobs to go as Flybe complete deal

by isleofman.com 5th March 2007
Flybe has announced they are to cut jobs in the Isle of Man after final agreement to buy BA Connect.
But how many is uncertain.
Flybe will continue to fly to London Gatwick and Manchester from the Isle of Man and also to Southampton from March 25th.

Its now known that there have been five separate approaches over the possibility of taking over the BAConnect engineering works at Ronaldsway.
200 staff are employed there.
The Department of Trade and Industry say these discussions offer the potential to retain a significant proportion of the engineering staff (including both hangar and related technical support staff) in similar jobs on the Island.

The Government say it is likely to be some weeks if not months before it is known if an acquirer can be found. All parties recognise staff are seeking certainty and are making efforts to reach a conclusion quickly.
They say it is unlikely that any acquirer will be able to support all such jobs, hence staff reductions are likely.

Flybe has stated it will retain flight crew, cabin crew and line engineers, and so maintaining over 40 jobs on the Island. Also, DTI understands that Flybe has some 60 opportunities for engineering staff to re-locate to Flybe’s engineering base in Exeter and also to its facility in Manchester which will be expanding its maintenance services.

Meanwhile, from March 25th, Flybe are to operate flights, initially with 146 and Embraer 145 jets, to Manchester, Gatwick and Southampton.
