Bacchas A seal potentially crucial win

by isleofman.com 24th March 2007
Bacchas A gave a signal of their intent to win back the men’s Division One title with a 3-1 victory over reigning champions Valkyrs A on Saturday.

Goals from Karl Moore (two) and Glen Bloxham-Munday maintained Bacchas’ 100 per cent record and moved them three points clear of Valkyrs, suffering their first defeat of the season.

Gerry Quinn was the Valkyrs’ scorer.

Bloxham-Munday had a good day, also scoring in Bacchas’ B 4-0 win over newly promoted Vikings B.

Steve Chapple, Tom Wilson and Danny Shuttleworth were the other scorers.

Vikings A had an impressive 2-1 win over Ramsey A, while Castletown A defeated Valkyrs B, thanks to strikes from Adrian Rigg and Donald Stewart.

In Walbrook Trustees women’s Division One, reigning champions Bacchas A are clear favourites to retain the title after doubles from Sharon Pope and Donna Harrison secured a 4-0 success over nearest rivals Castletown A.

Phoenix edged out Harlequins in a seven goal thriller, Sarah Breen scored twice as Ramsey A thrashed Castletown B 6-1, while Valkyrs A moved up to second after a superb fightback.

They trailed 2-0 to Vikings A (Kim and Jan Carney) at half-time but second half goals from Andrea Kneen, Steph Lace and Leanne Brew sealed a thrilling comeback.
