Cavendish and Biggart named as winners

Commonwealth Games gold medal cyclist Mark Cavendish and long distance race walker Sue Biggart have been named as Sportsman and Sportswoman for 2006.

At a glittering ceremony at the Villa Marina last night, World Enduro Champion David Knight was named as Isle of Man Ambassador of the Year, and Geoff Corlett received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with swimming, the Island Games and Student Festival.

The Isle of Man Football team received a boost ahead of representing England at next week's UEFA Systems Cup qualifying group in the Czech Republic, by picking up the Team of the Year Award.

Junior World Champion cyclist Peter Kennaugh and Commonwealth Games swimmer Olivia Rawlinson took the Under-21 titles.

Commonwealth Games Team Manager Ian Harrop was named Clubman/Official of the Year with Team Isle of Man Cycling's Mike Doyle taking the Coach prize.

Multi Special Olympics medal winner John Stephens took the Person with a Disability Award.

The whole event was watched by the Guest of Honour - former winning Ryder Cup golfer Ronan Rafferty.
