Bacchas maintain 100 per cent record; Valkyrs keep hopes alive

by isleofman.com 14th April 2007
The top two in Manx hockey both won on Saturday ahead of their clash on Sunday.

League leaders Bacchas A maintained their 100 per cent record with a 2-1 victory over Vikings A, thanks to strikes from Robin Perry and Andy Bridson – Mark Doc scored the reply for battling Vikings.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Valkyrs A kept up the pressure with a comprehensive victory over Ramsey A.

A Gareth Morris double, along with goals from Russell Miller, Vic Fearns and Ed Margot, sealed a 5-0 success.

Valkyrs realistically need to defeat Bacchas to keep their hopes of retaining the title alive.

Glenn Bloxham-Mundy, Danny Shuttleworth and Julian Sewell were the scorers as Bacchas B defeated Castletown 3-0, while Ken White and Mike Flowers scored first half goals as Vikings B and Valkyrs B drew 1-1.

In Division Two, a serious head injury to Paul Lawler forced the match between Castletown B and Valkyrs C to be abandoned.

Both sides wish him a speedy recovery.

Elsewhere Ben Kelly scored FOUR as Bacchas Cavaliers defeated Bacchas Colts 7-1.

In Walbrook Trustees women’s Division One, reigning champions Bacchas A moved nearer to retaining the title – goals from Cath Griffiths (two) and Niamh Goddard overcoming a tricky test to seal an impressive 3-0 win against Vikings A.

Valkyrs A kept their outside hopes alive after an Andrea Kneen hat-trick saw off Castletown A 3-1.

Trish Gelling notched the Town reply.
