Island narrowly defeated in UEFA opener

The Isle of Man has lost its opening game of the UEFA Regions Cup 2-1 to Slovakia.

Slovakia took the lead in the first half after a corner was deflected into his own net by Island midfielder Nick Hurt.

However, a much improved performance by the Manx side in the second half saw Callum Morrissey notch a 68th minute equaliser.

It looked like the Island could go onto claim victory when Hurt saw a header hit the bar which appeared to bounce down over the goalline.

However, play continued and Slovakia went 2-1 in front shortly afterwards and held onto win.

The Island play the hosts, the Czech Republic, in their next fixture on Thursday evening.
