There were impressive local performances, including two Manx victories, at the Junior Race Walking Championships and Northern Championships at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

Sinead Kaneen and Alexandra Ross completed a 1-2 in the under 13 girls event which also helped the Island to clinch the team prize.

Lauren Whelan was equally successful, winning the under 15 girls with Kirsty Taylor sixth (third in the Northern contest) – the Island taking a fine second place in the team contest.

Karen Renacle took an impressive fourth in the under 17 girls with Richard Bell a fine 10th in the under 17 boys (both second in the Northern).
