Royal and Ayre cause Junior Cup surprises

by isleofman.com 29th April 2007
Douglas Royal and Ayre United caused major surprises in the quarter-finals of the JCK Junior Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

A third minute goal from Ayre veteran Steven Easthope dumped the Combination One champions and holders Laxey out of the competition and ended their hopes of a league and cup double.

Meanwhile, Royal produced a superb 4-1 win at St George’s.

A super first half showing saw them lead 3-0 by the break and they added a fourth in the second period.

Caine Riding notched the Geordies’ consolation.

CFS Combination Two leaders Corinthians went on the rampage at Pulrose with an impressive 9-0 success.

Richard Mulhearn led the rout with a four goal haul, while a double from Mark Christian, and a goal apiece from Robert Bentley, Blaine Slattery, plus an own goal, sealed the win – seven of those goals arriving in the second half.

Rushen showed their pedigree with a 5-1 home win over Union Mills.

And it was a super second half show from the southerners, who trailed 1-0 at the break to a Tony McKay goal before taking control - Dave Ward, Dickie Corrin, Aaron Hawley among their scorers.

In the only game in CFS Division Two, Ramsey Youth Centre were 4-0 winners at Douglas and District, thanks to goals from Alex Doddrell (two), John Livesey, Glenn McGovern.
