It's Ayre v Corinthians in Junior Cup

by isleofman.com 5th May 2007
CFS Combination Two side Corinthians will meet Ayre United in the final of the JCK Junior Cup final.

That’s after they pulled off a surprise 6-3 victory over Combination One neighbours Douglas Royal on Saturday.

Royal led 3-2 at one stage but two dismissals in quick succession reduced them to nine men and Corinthians took full advantage, turning on the style to cause a cup shock.

Two goals apiece from Brett Armitage and Steve Shimmin, along with goals from Blaine Slattery and Tony Edgar, did the damage.

John Fitzmaurice was the hat-trick star for Royal but still ended up on the losing side.

Corinthians will meet Ayre United after they produced a super second half showing to win 3-0 against an experienced Rushen United side at Croit Lowey.

Goals after the break from Steve Jauncey, Jason Craine and Phil Quayle booked the Tangerines’ place in the final.

In OSA Division One, St George’s moved within touching distance of a third league championship in four years after demolishing already relegated Marown 10-1.

Goals from Michael McHale, Sean Quaye (two), Andy Bass, Chris Bass (two), Martin Torr (two) and Johnny Myers (two) sealed a memorable day for the Geordies and extended their lead at the top to eight points.

In CFS Division Two, champions Old Boys maintained their unbeaten record with a 5-1 home success over Foxdale.

Goals from Tommy Miller, Michael Hooper, Craig Stewart, Callum Stewart and Kenny Magee secured another comfortable victory.

Veteran Martin Costain notched the visitors’ consolation.

In-form Pulrose thrashed Malew 9-2 at Groves Road and there was no doubting the star of the show.

Prolific marksman Dave Skillen hit SIX in the romp with Andy Glover, Chris Cowin and Brian O’Riordan the other scorers.

Adam Drewitt and Steve Proudlove found the net for Malew, who suffered a miserable afternoon but have had an impressive season.
