by isleofman.com 8th May 2007
Peter Kaneen won Sunday's Manx 20k Walk Championships in Andreas.

He finished seven minutes clear in 97 minutes, showing a return to form ahead of the Dublin Grand Prix next month.

Michael George managed another personal best despite the trying conditions, and finished in just under 105 minutes.

Jock Waddington also recorded a personal best, improving on his debut 20k effort set earlier this year.

David Griffiths also made a rare appearance after an injury plagued couple of years. He undergoes surgery next week in an attempt to cure the problem. Manx Radio and the athletics community wish him all the best.

Rose Taylor was the only woman to finish the 12 circuits of the Andreas course and was a deserving winner of the ladies title with a well judged walk and great perseverance.

Marie Jackson had been well ahead, but stopped at 15k choosing to conserve her legs for a 10 mile handicap race in York next weekend.

In the 5k event, Karen Renecle showed she is back to her best and dipped under 30 minutes again. Henry DaSilva was second in a season's best time, and Pat Pollins also continued her improvement with a p.b..

Alexander Norris walked a sound 2k and her younger sister Katie also picked up a win in the 1k, though she was pushed hard by Jessica Isherwood who has been improving steadily over the last few months.

Meanwhile, 61 athletes completed the Peel to Douglas run on Bank Holiday Monday. John Halligan was the fastest in 55.51m, only 12 seconds ahead of Andy Cannell in second.

Darren Gray came home third in 56.54m and Edward Gumbley was fourth, about a minute and a half behind.

Eve O'Hare was the first lady home in 22nd overall, Samantha Cowen was second and Sarah Nelson was third.
