The only nominee, Energy FM Managing Director Juan Turner, received 15 votes.
Mr Turner said he would support the public election of members of Legislative Council and regarded his election as a housekeeping role for eight months
Asked if there was a conflict of interests between his new political role and being owner of a local radio station Mr Turner said he was resigning as MD of the company.
