Accountant expects swift action by HMRC

The expiry of the United Kingdom Revenue and Customs' so called 'tax amnesty' is likely to be followed by action sooner rather than later.

That's the view of Phillip Dearden, a partner at chartered accountants PKF.

It is estimated that at least 45,000 people have contacted HMRC, in the run-up to the deadline for disclosure, at midnight tonight.

But it's being claimed ten times that number of undisclosed offshore accounts have been discovered.
