The Isle of Man Ladies’ Golf Championship, sponsored by Bradford & Bingley International Limited, got underway at Castletown on Sunday.
Thirty six ladies played two rounds, competing for 16 qualifying places and the chance to go into the match play on 17th July.
Eleven year old Emma Harris, the youngest competitor, led the field after the first round with a gross score of 82. This obviously inspired Shirley Glover and she came in with a second round of 76 giving her the best gross score of the day with 161.
Results for the day were as follows:- Best gross, Shirley Glover; best net, Emma Harris; second best net, Shirley Glover; third best net, Helen Corlett; fourth best net, Joy Morris; team prize, Port St Mary.
The match play starts at five pm on Tuesday 17th July, and the draw is as follows:
5pm – Shirley Glover v Pam Davies
5.10pm – Norma Loundes v Sue Kinrade
5.20pm – Jane Gaines v Heather Skinner
5.30pm - Ann Gelling v Christina Skelly
5.40pm - Cath Preston v Helen Corlett
5.50pm – Elaine Taggart v Joy Morris
6pm – Heather McKenna v Ruth Pigott
6.10pm – Alice Leadbetter v Emma Harris
Subsequent rounds will be played on 19th and 20th July with the final starting at 1pm on Sunday 22nd July.
